assessment capability before?
Why does your child still take the same IQ and standardized achievement
tests you took and your parents took? Why isn’t “multiple
intelligences” taught in every school in America?
Because when it was brought
to the school systems in America, it hit a stone wall.
Multiple intelligences means everyone’s different – each
person with a unique mix of developed and underdeveloped intelligences,
or cognitive abilities. How could education deal with this? A unique
education for each student based on their uniqueness? Impossible. Too
expensive. Can’t be done.
IQ
tests –the big lie
Did you know the scientist who developed the original IQ test, Alfred
Binet, knew there really was no single IQ… but the French government
made him create a test that could quickly identify which citizens should
be educated and which should be laborers. No grays. Just
black or white. In or out. Smart or dumb.
Every major psychologist since Binet has known that standardized IQ
tests are flawed and too simplistic. But an entrenched government
education bureaucracy and a school system held hostage to a $multibillion
testing industry is not about to change without intense resistance.
It’s not about your child’s future. It
is,
as is usually the case, more about money and power.
So you get an education system focused on
- teaching “CONTENT” (that
will be virtually obsolete moments after graduation in this rapidly
changing global world)…
- pressures to pass standardized
achievement tests (that do little to predict how each child will
perform in the world over his or her lifetime…
- or address the
unique education needs of those labeled as “learning disabled”.
The result is A Nation In Crisis turning out
graduates who can’t compete in the 21st century… a situation
so real and frightening, our most prominent and visionary business and
academic leaders (like Microsoft’s Bill Gates and MIT’s
Lester Thurow) are advocating for a wholesale
overhaul of America’s
academic testing programs and warning of America having a “3rd World labor
market” by 2030.
The rest of the world is eating our lunch. And at the core of
the problem is our focus on homogenized group testing standards and not
the individual child. Your child. How to help your child
become a productive, contributing part of our society and fulfill his
or her potential – without limits or restrictions.
What does all this have to do with your child … today?
It means you can’t count on your school system or government to
help meaningfully any time soon. Only a massive revolution by the
parents of this country demanding change will have any chance of effecting
